About Us
From The Plant Kid to Sunrise Topiaries
A bit about us - where we've been, and where we're going.
My Grandfather, Jacques Van Den Hombergh, came to the United States as a Dutch refugee from World War 2. He worked for years on a small family farm, saving his money until he was able to purchase a small patch of land and some greenhouses. For three generations, my family has been growing beautiful, elaborate, and handcrafted topiaries in Keeler Michigan. Now in the hands of my aunt, my family's business is situated just over 100 miles away from the center of Chicago.
After seeing my relatives continue to ply the family craft, I was inspired to start my first business, The Plant Kid. After over 5 years selling plants at farmer's markets across the Chicago Northshore, I began to expand my business. I began to sell at multiple markets at a time, and even hire employees! As I continue to grow, the next step in my journey is to begin my business anew, transforming from The Plant Kid into Sunrise Topiaries. I hope you will all join me in this next chapter of my business, and I cannot wait to see you - whether it be on my website, at various retailers across the country, or anywhere else you are able to get your hands on our "topes"!
