One of the most common inquiries I receive is about which plants do well in the shade, or partial sunlight. While many aspiring plant parents are fortunate to have sunny windowsills galore, not all of us have that luxury! The good news, however, is that there are many beautiful and easy to care for plants that do well in the shade.
Some of my popular shade loving plants include my hardy ferns - Euonymus and Eugenia in particular. While these boxwoods do well in many conditions, my customers enjoy their ability to stay alive in partial sunlight - bringing greenery to areas where other plants just can't make it.
For an individual that desires more shape or color in their shady space , I recommend my Angel Vine and Streptocarpella plants. These plants may need slightly more sunlight, but still enjoy partial and indirect exposure!
Once you have put your plants in their new home, it is also important to keep the other essentials of plant parenthood in mind. Water your plants regularly, but be careful not to overwater. The soil should be moist, but not soggy. Fertilize your plants every few weeks during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer.
In addition, Deadhead spent flowers to encourage new growth. Keep in mind that your plants may flower and grow less in the wintertime - be excited for new springtime activity!
With proper care, your shade-loving plants will thrive and provide you with years of enjoyment. We are super happy to be able to provide you with the shade-loving plants you need, to bring greenery to your home no matter the conditions!
Best of luck in your topiary journey, everyone!
