Plant Care Information

Mexican Heather (Purple/White)

Light

Mexican heather enjoys high amounts of direct sunlight - at least 5 hours a day is recommended. The plant can tolerate indirect light/partial shade (in fact it makes the foliage a bit greener) but will consequentially bloom less often, or not at all.

Water

Mexican Heather should be watered about once a week - slightly more if it is being watered sparingly and indoors. Make sure to water when the soil is dry to the touch - but do not let it sit in water, or otherwise soggy soil. It may help to let the plant drain (over a sink, etc.) after watering.

Pets

Mexican heather is generally regarded as nontoxic, but consuming large amounts of the plant could cause mild stomach pain in cats. I recommend further research if you have a hungry feline in the house!

Dwarf Myrtle (Myrtus Communis)

Light

Indoor: Well-lit room, no direct sun. South or west facing windows.
Outdoor: Myrtle is hardy to USDA zones 8 to 11. The plant prefers full to partial sun.

Water

Indoor: Water thoroughly when surface soil begins to dry. Both over and under watering can be harmful to this plant.
Outdoor: Water the plant deeply once a week. In hotter weather, water when soil appears to dry (can be up to 3 times a week).

Pets

While I have seen research pointing either way, I recommend staying on the safe side - keep away from dogs and cats.

Goodwin Creek Lavender

Light

Lavender topiaries need a lot of bright, direct sunlight to thrive. Place them in a sunny windowsill (East or West facing ideally) or outside in a sunny area.

Water

Lavender prefers soil that has dried out between waterings. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, and do your best to avoid overwatering, as it can cause root rot.

Pets

The lavender plant is toxic to dogs, and can cause mild stomach troubles in cats - we recommend keeping it out of reach.

Streptocarpella "Concord Blue"

Light

Streptocarpella is ideally grown in an area with bright light, but not direct sun. Windows facing any direction should work fine, as long as they are not getting scorched by direct midday light.

Water

Water Streptocarpella regularly - (roughly 1-2 times a week, as it likes to dry out between waterings) - but try to avoid watering the leaves themselves, as it can occasionally cause browning. Instead, try to work under the leaves and get to the soil!

Pets

Feel free to purchase the streptocarpella in any household - this plant is nontoxic to most common pets.

Rosemary

Light

Rosemary is grown best in full sun with little shade -to promote quick growth, keep it next to a windowsill where it can receive upwards of 5 hours of sunlight a day. However, the herb can tolerate less/indirect light while growing more slowly - especially in the wintertime.

Water

When grown indoors, rosemary plants should generally be watered one to two times a week. The goal should be to keep your rosemary's soil dry, but not bone dry.

Pets

No worries here! The ASPCA lists the herb as nontoxic for canines and cats - even horses!

Angel Vine (Muehlenbeckia)

Light

Angel vine enjoys getting direct morning sun to help facilitate growth, but it isn't necessary. For optimal growth, you should place these plants in a location with filtered or indirect sunlight.

Water

Angel vines prefer a medium that is slightly dried out in between waterings. Personally, I water mine twice a week but I recommend to touch the soil yourself to check that it isn't bone dry. If it is, water thoroughly immediately!

Pets

Unfortunately, consuming angel vine is toxic to pets - in fact, consuming large amounts of it is toxic for humans as well - so we recommend keeping these plants out of reach of small children, dogs and cats if possible!

Boxwood Honeysuckle

Light

They do best in long-lasting, direct to partial sunlight.  Ideally, they should be placed less than 1 foot from a window.

Water

Boxwood Honeysuckle wants to be watered regularly (every 2-3 days), especially during the growing season. Occasional dehydration does not affect the plants. However, they need good irrigation in longer periods of drought so that they are not weakened too much.

Pets

This plant can be toxic to both dogs and cats, making them slightly sick. I’d recommend keeping away and out of reach!

Schefflera Topiary

Light

Schefflera plants prefer medium-light, meaning they should be kept in bright light, but the light should not be direct.

Water

Schefflera is a relatively hardy plant compared to some of the others in our catalog, however that does not mean it should be ignored! Watering twice a week is ideal - however, because Schefflera is pretty resilient it’s ok if you forget once in a while.

Pets

This plant can be toxic to both dogs and cats, making them slightly sick. I’d recommend keeping away and out of reach!
